I recently came across a widely circulated TikTok video of a father punishing his son by cutting off the child's hair. I feel compelled to share my thoughts on it. A lot of people are outraged by the video, and have responded by sharing it and criticizing the parent - without giving any consideration to the consequences of their own actions.
It's natural to feel anger or disappointment in response to the video, but I question whether sharing the video is helping or potentially causing more harm to the child. By circulating the video, they inadvertently contribute to the issue they're condemning – humiliating the child. Attacking and humiliating the parent is not a solution. We have to realize that an attack on the parent is an attack on the family.
This is an opportunity for our "village" to raise awareness and provide support to parents and families in need, rather than perpetuating negativity. Let's use this situation as a teachable moment and a catalyst for fostering understanding, empathy, and support within our community. We should use our platforms to create a positive environment for growth and change - build up and restore families.
I'm praying that the child and his parents have access to the resources and support they need to heal.
